The Power of Words ~ Rabqa

Words are powerful. They can create or destroy, build up or tear down. The power of words is not measured by their volume or intensity of their delivery, but by their effectiveness in fulfilling their purpose.

Powerful speech flows from an inspired heart, either for good or evil.

An example from history illustrates the point. Sir Winston Churchill, the English war-time Prime Minister, inspired a nation to greatness by using his words to create a picture of victory in the face of certain defeat. His famous address calling the nation never to surrender turned Britain’s darkest hour into its finest. His words created faith in a nation & inspired the whole world to believe that good could come triumph over evil.

On the other hand Adolph Hitler used his skilful manipulative way with words to inspire a nation to evil. His words were so powerfully motivated by the appalling intent in his heart that he nearly succeeded in his grandiose scheme of world domination. His words created fear & inspired men to do inconceivable evil on a colossal scale.

The Bible perfectly describes the devious power of the words Ps 55:21
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter,
But war was in his heart;

His words were softer than oil,

Yet they were drawn swords.

Endless pictures of both good & evil can be woven by our words. What we say reveals what is in our hearts. God had the image the creation in His heart before the world ever was, When He spoke this image into being, His words created exactly what He had within Him, through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Genesis we see time & time again how God spoke the creation into existence Gen 1:3

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

This was God's first divine command which begins the process of transforming the chaos. The words "God said" appear ten times in chapter 1 as a means of bringing about life & order. The exact working relationship among the members of the Trinity in this process is not clearly defined in the Bible, see Col1:16. Light is the presence of illumination in general.

We too create with our words. We bring things we see in our hearts into being through out mouths, just as God did.

If our words are godly words we will create the lifestyle God wants us to have, that is heaven here on earth. If on the other hand our words are not godly they will create the lifestyle the devil wants us to have-hell on earth. The choice is entirely ours.

Winners don't entertain thoughts or words of defeat. If we want to be winners in life we need to start speaking the way winners speak. The only way we can do that is to find out what God wants us to speak & to concentrate on doing the things He wants us to do.

Words determine the shape of our lives. We live today in what we said about ourselves yesterday. Tomorrow we will live by what we say about ourselves today. If we don't like who we are today, then we need to change our words.

If we can control our words then we can control our life.

The Bible shows us that just as ships can be controlled by small rudders & horses by bits in their mouth, we can be controlled by our seemingly small & insignificant tongues.
James 3:2-4

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.

Bridle your tongue! Monitoring every word we speak may seem cumbersome at first, but it will serve to advance righteousness.

Nothing can cause more damage then the tongue. Keeping our speech under control is a discipline believers must develop.

As the pilots of our lives we need to set our mouths in the right direction. We can't simply turn them lose to say whatever we feel like. Our tongues can set our whole lives on fire. They can corrupt our whole person.

If you are anything like me, you have probably wished that you had held your tongue. Maybe some reasonably innocent situation flared up into a major disaster all because of foolish words. Prov 18:6-7

A fool’s lips enter into contention,
And his mouth calls for blows.

A fool’s mouth is his destruction,

And his lips are the snare of his soul.

Words can also do untold good. If the careless use of a rudder sends a ship on to the rocks, & wise use steers it through a narrow channel into a safe & peaceful harbour. Just like the yachtsman setting his course with a rudder we set our course with our mouths. What we say determines our nature & our life.

There is one simple reason why words have such a powerful effect on our lives; that because words have enormous creative power.

God created the world with words. When He said Let there be light!, the bible tells us light was! & God, who created us in His own image & likeness, put into us the same power to create with the words of our mouth. God framed the world with His words, & we frame our world with our words. Hebrew 11:3

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Our belief concerning God's creative act exemplifies the evidence of things not seen in verse 1 of this chapter. Which says Now faith is the substance of things hoped for & the evidence of things not seen Heb 11:1

We have been given a unique ability to create a vision on the inside of us. Champions see themselves successful long before they taste it. On the other hand losers see defeat long before it happens. Success or defeat are birthed in the mind. Our mind needs to trained to think godly & positive thoughts & our mouths to release these
same thoughts in words so that our vision inside of us becomes a reality.

When the Bible says God made us in His image  it means, that we are spirit, just as He is. Each of us is a spirit who lives in a body & has a soul that is the area of the mind, will & intellect. Since we are really spirit beings, we have the same power as God to create any vision we see in our spirit-through our mouths.

The Bible often refers to our spirit as our 'heart'. If we are not familiar with God & His ways we will have evil hearts. Our spirit will be dead to the things of God, our mind will be negatively programmed by the world our body will be involved in some form of carnality. If we are familiar with God & His ways we will have a 'good heart'. Our spirit will have come alive to the things of God, our mind will be in the process of being renewed by His Word, & we will be presenting our body daily to the Lord.

Every person speaks from one of these two hearts, either good or evil. Even as Christians we can speak from an evil heart at times. For while our spirit is alive to God, we can still be held captive by our old ways of thinking & acting.
Our words reveal what we really are like in our hearts. A good man will bring out good things from his heart while an evil man will bring out evil. Jesus made this very clear when He said it was not what went into a man that defiled him but what came out of him. Matt 12:34-35

Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

This analogy demonstrates that the blasphemy was not merely an utterance of the lips, but an expression of character.

Our words will always indicate what we are consistently seeing, hearing, thinking & doing. It's impossible to imagine a sports person who will not find a way to talk about sport, the thing that consumes his thoughts will always will always find a way through to his mouth.

In fact every word we speak has its origin in our thoughts. Some thoughts remain no longer then the time it takes to think about them, & our ensuing words have little impact. Thoughts like that don't influence us to any great degree. Students everywhere are living examples of this. They cram dozens of ideas into there minds for an exam which are not there a day or two later!

On the other hand thoughts that find there way down into our spirit impact us enormously. Thousands of thoughts invade our space every day. Our minds reject many of theses. So not every thought we have is conceived in our imaginations & birthed back through our mouths. But some get down into our hearts, & it's these that have creative power for good or evil when they leave our lips.

We all know by experience how thoughts filter down into our spirits till the opportunity comes to speak them out. Generally they come out in fits of emotion: rage, abuse & anger that is when our fuse is lit by some situation we are struggling with. We give everyone a piece of our mind, then stand back & say we are sorry because we don't know where it all came from.

The truth is, we know where it came from. Our mind & emotions have been rehearsing exactly what we would say if given the chance.

When deeply meditated thoughts flow out into words we see the incredible creative power of words at work. What we say both creates & reveals the basic orientation of our lives.

If we are programmed to the ways of the world we will constantly speak words of negativity & defeat. Like "the kids get sick every time we go on holiday", "David will probably die like his father at forty with a heart attack" "I just know I'll have an accident at that intersection one day" & so on.

The amazing thing is that the kids do get sick every holiday, David does suffer a heart attack & dies, & you do have an accident, just as you predicted.

We may think being negative is just being realistic, but what we are in fact doing is creating the very thing we fear. Even before it happens we picture it happening. That picture is so compelling that we really do start to believe it will occur. we are quick to tell every one who will listen about our fears. we become our own worst enemy, for the things we say will come to pass. We of course don't want them to come to pass, & live in hope & pray they wont. But they do. & they always will till we change the image of fear in our hearts to one of faith & bring our words in line.

Another place we see the power of words is with anxiety. so many people feel that if they could just stop their minds going around & around all the time, thinking about all their worries & anxieties, they would be able to cope.& you know they are right Prov 12:25 Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.

If our minds are always centred around our worries & fears, those images will be like a stronghold in our hearts. We will find ourselves speaking out about our problems to anyone who comes near us. By our words we can make our anxieties seem impossible to overcome. Eccl 5:3 For a dream comes through much activity & a fools voice is known by his many words.

Dreams are often the products of natural anxieties, care & concerns, with little meaning behind them. Even so the fools words are many, with little meaning behind them.

When we speak, we must be aware that the Lord hears every word we say. Presumptuous speech displeases Him & can bring discipline.

The solution is to change our focus from the problems to the answers we truly desire. it takes the same time to speak the positive as it does to speak the negative. It is much better to say:
"The children are always healthy on holidays", David will have a long & healthy life," Making the change is not easy We can't speak this way because we don't have a mental picture of the positive things in our hearts. The only picture we have is the well developed negative. We are like cameras that can't reproduce a positive picture because we are focusing is always negative.

We may try to suppress our words, somehow knowing we should not be negative, deceitful, depressed etc. But if they come from established attitudes in our hearts we are fighting a loosing battle. The answer is that we have to change our hearts before we can change our words.

The most effective way to change our hearts is to change our mind to think in a different way. The mind is the gateway to the spirit, & whatever gets down into our spirit through our mind will effect every single part of our being.

God tell us in His Word that the way to change our mind is to renew it by the Word of God. Since God's Word is spirit & is totally positive, alive, creative, & energising, it's only natural that a consistent diet of such food will produce that image in our hearts. But on the other hand a steady diet of negatives, death, destruction, horror, doom & gloom will produce negative, fear-filled images in our hearts.

It is not enough to determine by an act of our will that we are going to stop speaking negatively. As every sport minded person knows the only way to stop speaking defeat is to speak victory. & the only way to speak victory is to find out what God is saying & to say that. God's Word is absolute truth so when we speak we are always speaking what is true.

There is only one way to get the word of God in our hearts  & that is by confessing it that is out loud-to God, to others & to yourself, until the Holy Spirit establishes it in your heart & your faith raises up to embrace it. Speak it out again & again, Now this is not a gimmick but a faith principle because we are told So faith comes by hearing, & hearing by the Word of God Rom 10:17.

Be consistent in your reading & study of God's Word. Recognise that your faith will grow only as much as you feed on God's Word.

When we hear the words of life coming from our mouths, they flow from the Spirit of God into our spirit.

John 6 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, & they are life.

Words don't have the luxury of being neutral. They come from one or two realms: the kingdom of light, which is God's kingdom or the kingdom of darkness which is satan's. One is for good & the other is for evil. There is no middle ground.

Words will create either life or death, encouragement or discouragement, peace or strife, health or sickness, blessing or cursing, wealth or poverty, love or hatred.

Every single day we have a choice to make between these two. We can speak words that produce life & health or words that produce fear & death. We need to deliberately set our mouths in the direction of our desires. If we want healing then we cannot afford to talk sickness. If we want peace we cannot afford to talk about anxieties, cares & worries. If we want success we cannot afford to talk defeat.

God instructs us to choose Him above all else. If we make our choices according to the world's standards, we will be choosing the way of death,  because many things which seem right to the world are measured by secular humanism, which is very wrong to God. But if we make our choices according to God & His ways we will be choosing life.

God tells us to obey His Word; the world tells us rebel against all types of authority & do whatever we like. God tell us to avoid sin; the world tells us to enjoy everything that brings pleasure without any thought of responsibility for our actions. God tells us to proclaim His promises by faith & walk towards their fulfilment; The world tells us to believe only what we see & stay grounded in our many fears. God tell us to give; the world tells us to keep.  God tell us to love & forgive; the world tells us to hate & get even. Whatever God says the world’s system is programmed for the exact opposite.

Jesus told us that we were to live by the words that came from His Father, He lived by them & overcame death, hell & the grave. Our testimony can be the same, if we resolve to do & say all that is written.
But He answered & said It is written "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matt 4:4

Jesus appeal to Scripture provides a clue for interpreting the Temptation narrative. Using the Word of God, He is victorious over the same temptations to which Israel had succumbed in the wildness, when they forced a test upon God in time of need.

Do you want your words to produce what is good & peaceful in your life? Then you must know which words are God's that produce faith, & which words are the devil's which produce fear. Then you must speak God's words so that the Holy Spirit can establish in your heart the realities that those words express.

As you heart changes, out of that transformed heart will come faith-filled words that will change your world. Ps 34:12-13 Who is the man who desires life. And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.

Trust that He will hear & answer. Guard carefully your speech. Know that righteous speech carries with it the promise of long life.

The Power of Praise ~ Ganeida

James 1:22  says: But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

Many Christians think this verse means to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, offer hospitality, visit those in prison etc. but that is not primarily what this verse is referring to.

Here at Harvest Family Church you might hear your leaders say things like *Stand on the Word*, *Walk in Faith* or *This is a tool to help you.*  Today I want to give you a tool to help you break bondages & impediments in your life so that you might walk in victory & this verse in James is the first key to understanding how you can do that.

Firstly you need to understand that we are to Guard [y]our heart above all else, for it determines the course of [y]our life. Proverbs 4:23.  James 1 is firstly an instruction about our attitudes, about guarding our hearts.

The King James puts this verse this way:  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

When we study out the Greek,  be is Ginomai. Ginomai means to bring into existence, to create, to be born. The idea is that we bring into being the living word in our lives. PoiÄ“tÄ“s, translated doers, actually means a maker, a craftsman such as a poet or author, who creates something.  So you see the idea behind James 1 is that of a craftsman who is bringing something into existence.  If you aren’t doing that you are deluding yourself: paralogizomai.
James goes on to say that the one who continues to bring the word to life in their lives will be blessed in all they do.

That is the what.  Now let us look at the how.  How do we make that happen?

John10:10 Jesus says: The thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

This is the eternal dilemma.  Jesus’ stated purpose is that we might have abundant life.  Satan’s agenda is to kill, to destroy & to steal.  This is a fallen world & so just as Jesus warned we often have to deal with trials & tribulations.

There is nothing more detrimental to the Christian witness than Christians who are constantly sour, down in the mouth, depressed, complaining, whinging, whining, defeated.  They have obviously forgotten Jesus command to take heart; He has overcome the world.

There are things we can know about God:
He does not lie [Titus 1:2]
He keeps his promises [Numbers 23:19]
He is faithful [2 Timothy 2:13]
He cares for us [1Peter 5:7]
He is a healer [Exodus 15:26]

So this is the crunch; who do we believe?  Do we believe what God says or do we believe satan?  Satan will always lie to us, always try & confuse us, always attempt to steal our joy, always bring us down, always keep us in bondage.

What comes out of our mouth when we are in the midst of the battle is important.  Who do we believe? God ~ or satan?

God never said it would be easy but He did say that we could trust Him.  Just the same, winning the battle requires a strategy.  Satan has one & God has one. It is easy to fall prey to satan’s strategies because he lays snares & traps for us & if we are not paying attention we are going to succumb but there is one simple & effective tool we can employ that will keep us on track & break bondages.

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always & again I say rejoice!

1 Thessalonians 5:16
Rejoice always….Give thanks in all circumstances…

Now before everyone grabs hold of the wrong end of the stick let me clarify.

No, you don’t give thanks that you are broke; you give thanks because God is Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides for you.  You don’t give thanks because you are sick; you give thanks that you know the God who healeth.  You don’t rejoice that your family life is in disarray; you give thanks to the one who saves & redeems.  Notice something?  Praise takes our eyes of our circumstances & fastens our thoughts on the one who is able to change our circumstances.

It does something else, something very, very important.  It calls satan out.  It exposes him for the liar he is.  When we whinge & complain about our circumstances we come into agreement with what satan says about us & about our life.  When we do that we deny what God has said & call Him a liar!  When we praise God no matter what our circumstances are then we come into agreement with God & He can release His blessing into our life because God inhabits the praises of His people. Psalm 22:3

This is a principle Jesus applied to His life.  I want to look at just 2 examples.  You will know them both.

Matthew 6:9~13 ~  Commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer. Those who have had this teaching will remember that this is not a rote prayer but a rabbinical teaching tool using 12 principles that are to be prayed.  The first principle is praise [Holy be thy name].  The last principle is praise [to thine be the kingdom, the power & the glory].  In between are sandwiched our petitions for food, clothing, protection, forgiveness. When the disciples asked Jesus how they should pray this is how he taught them: begin & end with praise.

You may think to yourself, Really?  But Peter walked free from prison due to praise. [Acts 12]  Paul & Barnabas experienced prison gates opening, chains falling off, & earthquakes due to the power of praise.[Acts16] Praise raised Jesus from the dead.
You can read of Jesus death & resurrection in all 4 gospels & each gospel tells the story slightly differently ~ as you would expect because people remember different things. What we do know is it was Passover. We teach about Passover because it teaches us important things about how to follow Christ.

At Passover all Torah observant Jews like Jesus did certain things.  They removed all leaven from their homes because leaven represents sin. They celebrated a meal in which they remembered what God had done for them when He led them out of bondage in Egypt & they sang the Hallel ~ Psalms 113-118.

Scripture records that after the Passover meal they sang a Hymn & left for Gethsemane. The hymn was probably either Psalm 118 with the response: His faithful love endures forever or the Great Hallel, Psalm 136 with its repetitive refrain: His Love endures forever. This was Jesus declaration as He prepared to go to the cross as our Paschal lamb, our atonement for sin: God is good; His love endures forever. It is what Jesus continued to declare from the cross.

Jesus wasn’t yet on the cross.  He was yet to beg that if it was possible the cup of suffering would pass from Him. The cup did not pass & Jesus found Himself on that cross, in so much physical pain it is impossible to truly imagine it.  Our minds flinch away but it is then, in the midst of the sort of suffering you & I cannot really know, that something truly remarkable happens ~ & we do not know because we do not know our scriptures as we should ~ but you can bet your little cotton socks the Jews watching knew & understood!

To quote a line of the psalms to the Jewish mind, was to reference the whole psalm.  So when Jesus cried out:  My God!  My God!  Why have you forsaken me? He was not, as so many mistakenly believe, accusing God of abandoning Him. Things are not as they seem for psalm 22 goes on to declare:
I will declare your name to my people;
in the assembly I will praise you.
You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, honour him!
Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
For he has not despised or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.

Jesus also quotes twice from psalm 31.  His trust in the Father never wavers.  Even as He hung on that cross bearing the weight of the World’s sin, even as the Father’s wrath fell on Him that we might be spared, Jesus remained steadfast. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Hebrews 12:2 Paul could state this unequivocally because He understood what Jesus said from the cross. Jesus could just as easily have said with Job : Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.

In the midst of one of the worst scenarios imaginable, on the point of death, Jesus expends His energy to praise God. His focus is not on His present agony, excruciating as that must have been, but on the Father.  Selah.  Pause & think about that for a moment.  What are you complaining about today?

Finally Jesus says:  Tetelestai, it is finished.  This is actually a legal term indicating the terms of an agreement or contract has been  fully met; that what one set out to do has been accomplished. Tetelestai is in the perfect tense in the Greek which tells us that it has been done, it is done & it will continue being done. It is also the traditional ending to psalm 22!

The Jews considered hanging on a cross a curse [Galatians 3:13] but Jesus praised the Father anyway.

The Religious leaders called him a blasphemer ~ but Jesus praised the Father anyway.

The soldiers cursed him & divided His clothing amongst themselves ~ & Jesus praised the Father.

One of the 2 thieves mocked Him ~ but Jesus praised the Father.

The watching crowd considered Him as good as dead yet Jesus declared that God is good & His love endures forever.

Praise is a choice. It wasn’t Jesus choice to go to the cross: praise was.

Circumstances are often beyond our control.  How we respond is our choice. To praise God in the storm is an act of faith so enormous it raised Christ from the dead.

Isaiah 38:18 says:  For the dead cannot praise you; they cannot raise their voices in praise but hear the affirmations that close psalm 22:

I will declare your name
I will praise you.
 honour him!
Revere him,

The verbs are not past tense.  They are present & future. They are not the words of a dead man.  This is faith & this is what praise does.  It declares the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [Heb 11:1] It is why we are commanded to
Do every thing without complaining and arguing  [Phil 2:14].  It tells the world what we really believe about God.

Do you believe that God is good always?  Then praise Him!  Praise Him in the good times, & praise Him in the storm!

Discernment ~ Rabqa

Mother Teresa said: "Holiness is not the luxury of the few; it is
simply duty, for you & me."

Those who are full age are the ones who mature, not physically but spiritually. Physically we are as babies & grow into adulthood. In the same way, we are born spiritually as babies & are expected to grow into maturity, to the measure of Christ.

There is a significant difference between the two. Physically maturity is bound to time. You probably have never heard of a two year old been six feet tall, it takes fifteen to twenty years to reach that height.

However spiritually growth is not bound to time. Have you ever encountered believers who are only one year old in Christ but are more mature then those who have been saved twenty years or more. Heb 5:1

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

We see from this that the more advanced teachings are adapted to mature believers, whose spiritual senses are able to discriminate between sound & unsound doctrine & between wholesome & unwholesome conduct. We need to recognise that is is only through a sustained daily effort to apply God's Word to our life that we will become more mature.

The disciple is an apprentice to Jesus, learning to live as He did. God disciplines His children, correcting & training them to live in His kingdom. Correction if received with the right attitude of the heart produces the fruit of righteousness. The Fathers object is to bring His Children into maturity.

It is important that you note that your heart has five senses just like your body does. This fact is evident throughout Scripture. Ps 34:8 Taste & see that the Lord is good... We see this same metaphor of tasting was used by Peter in calling inquirers to examine the wonders of God. (1Pet 3:10-12).

Two senses are covered in Ps 34:8. & Jesus said in Matt 11:15 He has ears to hear let him hear!

Paul quoted God's statement to Israel

Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. 2Cor 6:17 Paul combines words from Is 52:11 which affirm God's desire for an exclusive loving relationship with His people. Paul also wrote that God Through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.2 Cor 2:14)

Conduct yourself with every clear conscience so that you will not be easily be shaken by peoples reactions. Realise that righteousness also sometimes triggers negative reactions.
Godly living may result in disfavour with others because it warns of judgement for the ungodly. Godly individuals live by the ethic of love selflessly asking how can I live for the benefit of others? They are not lawless or sloppy in the way they live; rather seek to do right in everything.

All five sense are covered in these four verses alone.
How do we keep from mixing up good with evil in a day when deception is rampart? How do we not fall into the same trap Eve fell into eve when she believed evil to be good, pleasant & wise? The answer is by discernment & we developed it through the authenticate of God.

The prophet Malachi foretold that in latter times there would be two groups of believers-those who fear God & those who don't. In the midst of hard times, those lacking godly fear complain, compare & murmur. They dislike that they must serve God yet suffer opposition, affliction, & hardship, while those who are wicked & posses no relationship with God are prospering.
Those who fear God go through the same hardships but do something different. They speak of the goodness of God. They fight through adversity by believing what He says about their difficult circumstances. They are more concerned with God's desires, plans, & kingdom then with their temporary discomfort they know that they are established in His faithfulness. There attitude is this.

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as sure-footed as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights. Hab 3:17-19

Remember to praise & worship the Lord & thank Him for His faithfulness no matter how devastating the circumstances, look with the eye of faith for God's plan for the future. When all the circumstances of our life paint a negative picture-in failure & loss or when the natural reaction would be grief or complaint-this is the time to put faith in God & in His Word. We then can see through God's eyes to the final glorious outcome. This brings worship & praise even before our circumstances have changed.

Paul referred to special vessels in 2 Tim 2:21 If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honourable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Mal 3:18 Then you will see the difference between the righteous & the wicked, between those who serve God & those who do not. The more we fear the Lord, the more we are able to wisely discern. In the beginning of Solomon's reign he cried out...Give your servant an understanding heart...that I may discern between good & evil... 1Kings 3:9.

The wisdom by which Solomon ruled was astonishing, in his years he was following the Lord in Prov 2:3-5 he said Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.

Apply your heart, pay attention & turn your ear to wisdom & understanding, understand that you must embrace them both, not just know about them. However when Solomon lost his fear of God, he was confused & couldn't tell the difference between good & evil. To him everything had become vanity & grasping for the wind. We see this in the book of Ecclesiastics which paints the picture of a bewildered & perplexed man who's lost his fear of God & consequently, his discernment. He was in a sad state of mind. Our passion should be first & foremost to fear God. If this is our top priority, then abundance will not deceive us.

We are told in Prov 11:28 He who trusts in his riches will fail. yet in the same book we read in prov 8:14,16 By humility & fear of the Lord are riches.& in Prov 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life.

True riches are the resources that enable you to fulfil what God has placed you on this earth to do, & this always entails impacting others, which is building the kingdom. A question we should honestly be asking ourselves each morning is: Am I motivated today by the fear of the Lord or by obtaining abundance? If your answer is godly fear, then it will protect you from the deception of engaging evil to do what is good. Riches, resources, wealth, & abundance are good. But if these are your target, you'll lack the discernment to recognise if the means to acquire, them is evil. To show you this in biblical terms: In Israel it was the custom to bring an offering or a gift to a prophet. As a young man, the future King Saul & his servants were searching for his father's lost donkeys. After an exasperating hunt, the servant recommended they travel to a nearby city to see if the prophet Samuel who lived there could help them locate the donkeys.

Saul's immediate response was, If we go, what do we have to give him? There's no bread in our sacks. We've nothing to bring as a gift to the holy man. Do we have anything else? (1Sam 9:7) This gives insight as to how the prophet's were supported. When we trust God above any shadow of doubt, like Abraham, God asked him to sacrifice his one & only son, whom he had waited many, many years for, Abraham could have said no way I've waited to long for him, but no, he trusted God, he got ready with his son Isaac & his servants, they journeyed for three days to the foot of Mount Moriah, he said to his servants Stay here with the donkey's; the lad & I will go yonder & worship. Gen 22:5)

Now he was not going to sing songs of worship to God. Abraham was going in obedience to God, to put his most treasured possession, his one & only son to death. His worship was defined by obedience.

As today is Communion Sunday, Abraham's obedience reminds me of Christ's obedience going to the cross, so man may live eternally with Him. Before that happened He sat down with His disciples to the Last Supper Matt 26:26-30. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. We are to celebrate the Lords Supper often. Approach it with faith, receiving the life & healing it provides. Obeying the Father was supremely important to Jesus. Obedience is the response of faith to any instruction from God. Jesus taught that true faith-will always be manifested in obedience to God's revealed will. Successful Christian living results from seeking & knowing God's will & then doing it in faith.
